When does a futures contract expire?

The expiration dates for U.S. stock and stock index futures contracts fall on the third Friday of every third month. 2 This table shows these dates through 2024. What happens when Bitcoin futures expire?

That is, on expiry, the payment from the buyer to the seller is made in USD. These are probably the bitcoin futures contracts that have the greatest impact on the BTC market. They expire monthly, on the last Friday of the month. Settlement takes place on the Monday following expiry.

When do BTC futures expire?

BTC futures expire the last Friday of the month, and are listed on the nearest six consecutive monthly contracts, inclusive of the nearest two December contracts. For example, assume it’s January and the six consecutive contract months are January, February, March, April, May, and June.

When does an option contract expire?

On months that the Friday falls on a holiday, the expiration date is on the Thursday immediately before the third Friday. Once an options or futures contract passes its expiration date, the contract is invalid.
